School is back in session and we are getting into our new morning routine. No more sleeping in for the girls and I am back to working in office full time. I think its super important to keep the kiddos in a routine so they know what to expect and can start their days on the right foot.
Wake Up & Move
To start my day I get up at 4:50 so I can get dressed for the gym. Working out first thing in the morning used to be really difficult for me but as time goes on it gets a bit easier. Now that’s not to say that I don’t experience the morning struggle bus because it’s definitely there but I have to give myself a pep talk!
Once I am at the gym and get the workout done I feel a million times better and my day has started with me focusing on myself and moving my body. Making sure that you spend time working on you is super important because as a mom we fall into the trap of taking care of ourselves last. But I have been trying to get out of that habit and make sure to give myself some time to myself everyday.
Get everyone up and ready
Once I get back from the gym, I get myself ready first and then I will get the girls up for the day. Sometimes Iyla will wake up on her own and other times I will get Alina up first so she can get herself dressed. This is definitely the key time to make sure I keep the girls on task because they are either moving at the speed of molasses or they’re sidetracked.
Breakfast
Even though I know their schools will supply them with breakfast, I try to feed them something small before we leave home just in case they are not fans of what the school has. Lina is definitely my picky eater so when it comes to food, I try to ensure I got it covered for her to reduce the chances of her not eating anything.
Small breakfasts are either an eggo, homemade protein muffin, cereal, etc.
Once their done eating, it’s teeth brushing time, so while they do that, I gather all their things and put them in the car right away.
Roll Out
Once everyone is done brushing, we shuffle out the door to get in the car and hit the road. Lina is our first drop off of the morning because she has to be at school by 7:40. After Lina is dropped off, I take Iyla to daycare.
3 Tips to conquer your morning
♥ Take the time to night before to get what you can ready and centralized.
This prevents you from scrambling around trying to find items. It takes no more than 10 minutes the night before to get Alina’s backpack packed and ready to go. I put her lunch bag on the counter open and ready to be filled. I have both girls water bottles on the counter as well ready to be filled. My gym clothes are in the bathroom ready with my shoes and watch.
Prepping for the following day is MAJOR for time management and ensuring readiness for a successful morning.
♥ Get yourself ready before everyone else.
By taking the time to get myself ready before the girls, it makes the morning function more smoothly because when I finish and get them up and ready, my focus is on them.
Waking up before everyone else is KEY to have the uninterrupted time to focus on yourself before you HAVE to focus your attention on the kiddos.
♥ Keep specific time goals as checkpoints to ensure you are running on time.
What I mean by this is I keep specific times that I know when I should be done with certain tasks. For example, I know that I have to be ready by 6:45. Once I am ready and it’s time to wake the girls, I know that they need to be up by 7:00 (latest). Once we are in the process of getting them dressed and hair combed, I know that our goal time to leave the house is 7:30 (latest).
Keeping tabs on time has been GAME CHANGING for me to manage our time efficiently.
