HI Everyone! Welcome back (or Welcome to my blog if you’re a first time reader)! I received a couple of products from Influenster to test out and review and I am more than happy to share my thoughts with you guys! If you’re not familiar with what or who Influenster is, I will do a little explanation. Influenster is a platform in which users are able to discover as well as review beauty products. The app determines what type of influence you have based on your different social media platforms and will grade you based off of that. Of course, the more social media platforms that you are active on, the better influencer rating you receive. Having a high influencer grade, will help determine whether you are qualified to receive what is called a Vox Box. This box is pretty much free products that they send you to test out and review. When receiving these boxes, you agree to their terms which include participating in each Vox Box Campaign. In these campaigns, you are assigned to receive points for tasks to complete when reviewing. Stay with me here – I know it sounds confusing! A little example, they may ask in a campaign for you to share a picture of the products you received on a few of your platforms and you have to include certain hashtags and verbiage. Once these tasks are completed, they will give you the points and you are entered into a larger contest for doing your part of the deal. Completing these tasks is your part of the deal to receive these products. If you are interested in getting active on this platform you can follow this link and look into it a bit more. I personally am not extremely active on it, but when they ask if I want to review some products I of course opt in!
This go around, they have sent me the Maybelline Dewy + Smooth Foundation as well as the Master Prime Hydrate + Smooth Primer. So I will let you guys know that I have tested out this foundation before personally when it first was released and have tried one of the other types of Master Prime Primer. When I was given this opportunity to review, I decided to try it again because I initially was not too much of a fan and wanted to see if I would change my mind.
I will start off with the fact that I love the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation! It is my everyday ride or die foundation. I personally have toned down the amount of product and coverage I place on my face due to reducing clogged pores. When I tested this product, I went through a full glam routine to get the best idea and results I could. The color I received is Nude Beige and it’s actually really funny because I chose the same color for myself when I initially bought it last year. I’m a bit pale and so I actually wish I had a lighter tone I could have mixed it with to lighten it up a bit. Another issue I had with this color specifically is it seemed to have a pink undertone to it, my skin tone is more of a yellow undertone so I am actually considering picking up a lighter tone of this to balance out the color to my skin tone.
As far as application went, it went on quite smoothly. BUT it was a bit patchy on my nose and I continually had to try to get it on evenly with no success. I personally have oily skin by the end of the day, so dewy foundations make me nervous. Some people love the dewy/oily look, Me? Not so much. So of course, by the end of the day my face was pretty oily and just looked slippery. BUT the coverage was still pretty strong.
During this testing process, I did also use the primer that was sent along with it. I usually don’t use primer everyday, like I said earlier, I’m a toned down make up lover these days. It honestly had been quite some time since I had primed my face with an actual primer. After it’s application, it was slightly tacky but that is a good quality to have in a primer so your foundation will adhere to it. Being that I had a patchy nose situation, I am thinking it was the primer that caused this. It’s nothing against this particular primer at all, but I know when I have used other primers in the past, it created the blotchy nose situation as well. This is such an annoying occurrence because no one wants a blotchy nose! I suppose I just need to find a primer that doesn’t cause this issue.
SO…to wrap this up, I overall liked the foundation, but I do not think it will be my new fav. As for the primer, I think I need to test it out a bit more and see how it works with other foundations. But it did feel lightweight on the face like it advertises. I just want to say I am super thankful that I was able to have these products sent to me by Influenster to test out and review. I think the app is great, I am not as active on it as most, but I always love when I get the opportunity to receive a box of some kind.
Has anyone else tried these products out before? What are your thoughts/experiences? Also has anyone else tried out Influenster before? I hope everyone has a fabulous rest of the week!!
xoxo Renee
